One back was overnight co-leader Justin Thomas, who posted a 66 en route to a two-day score of 12 under. Thomas, who will paired with Fowler on Saturday, mixed 11 pars with six birdies and one bogey.
Trey Mullinax and Branden Grace carded matching low-round 64s to sit T3 on 11-under par, one clear of Matt Kuchar and Cameron Smith, who each shot 65 to reach 10-under par.
