In an announcement that has touched the hearts of fans around the globe, Tiger Woods shared the sad news of his mother’s passing.
Kultida Woods, known affectionately as “Tida,” was 80-years-old and died peacefully, surrounded by family.
Kultida, born in Thailand, met Tiger’s father, Earl, during the Vietnam War. They moved to New York and married in 1969 before settling in California. Earl died in 2006 at 74. The two were married for 37 years.
Kultida was a pivotal figure in Tiger’s life. The 15-time major winner took to social media to express his profound loss, describing his mother as “a force of nature all her own” and his “biggest fan, greatest supporter.”
It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning. My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable. “My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable,” Woods said in a statement on X. “She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible.
“She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie. Thank you all for your support, prayers and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you Mom.”
Tiger’s words painted a picture of a woman whose love and guidance were instrumental in shaping one of world’s most iconic athletes.

While Woods’ late father, Earl, is often credited with helping develop his son’s talent, discipline and competitive spirit, Tiger has described his mother as “the enforcer.”
Tida was known for her strong, independent spirit and her deep connection with her son, often seen cheering him on at tournaments with a smile that belied her quiet strength. Her presence was a constant in Tiger’s life, from his childhood in southern California to his rise as a tour golfer, through both triumphs and challenges alike.
