Justin Thomas captured a rare feat by carding a 59 in his opening round at the Sony Open.
In round two, Thomas didn’t make a birdie until his 5th hole of the day.
However, Thomas almost pulled off another rare feat.
The Alabama alum nearly aced the 160-yard par-3 7th. Thomas’s laser-like tee shot slid slowly by the side of the cup and settled just inches away, leaving JT with a tap-in for birdie.

Seeking back-to-back wins in Hawaii, Thomas (-13) is currently 2-under through 9 holes, and is 3-strokes clear of Hudson Swafford, Justin Rose, Zach Johnson, and Gary Woodland – who are all tied for 2nd.
