Patrick Cantlay shot a final-round 1-under 71 and then edged Collin Morikawa on the second playoff hole to win the 2021 Memorial Tournament.
The 29-year old California native entered Sunday’s finale at Muirfield Village tied for the lead after the controversial forced withdrawal of Jon Rahm who led by six shots but tested positive for COVID.
Cantlay and Morikawa both finished with rounds of 71, but the UCLA product was one shot better than the Cal Berkeley alum in overtime.
For his second PGA Tour victory of the season, Cantlay earned $1,674,000 and 550 FedExCup points. He will move to No. 1 in the FedExCup standings and third on the money list. He also picked up 68 Official World Golf Ranking points and move back into the top 10, from 15 to No. 7.
For his second-place finish, Morikawa earned $1,013,700 and 315 FedExCup points. He also secured 40.8 world-ranking points and will move up from 6th to No. 4.
