The Louisville Metro Police Department held a press conference on Thursday and released a pair of videos that would seem to bolster the defense of two-time Masters champion Scottie Scheffler.
The videos – one from a dash cam and one from a fixed pole across the street – show Scheffler’s SUV moving at a crawl and slowly taking a left on to the driveway of Valhalla Golf Club.
The footage fails to show anything close to what Detective Bryan Gillis described in his police report, released on Friday. Scheffler is not speeding, nor is he driving recklessly. He is not shown assaulting Gillis or dragging him. And Gillis does not look to be injured at all.
The earliest interaction between Scheffler and Gillis was not made available. The Louisville police detective curiously failed to turn on his body-cam, a violation of departmental procedures.
Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel said the force took “corrective action,” yet did not specify what the “action” implied.
In the video footage, Gillis can be seen running with no apparent limp, which is at odds with his report, citing “pain, swelling, and abrasions” to his left wrist and knee after being dragged by Scheffler.
Upon arriving at Scheffler’s already-stopped vehicle, Gillis immediately escalates the situation and starts banging the window with the end of his flashlight, almost attempting to smash the glass. (Is this where Gillis injured his wrist?)
Scheffler, who at this point is reportedly nervous and confused, rolls down the window and Gillis forcefully reaches into the vehicle and yanks on the world No. 1 golfer’s left arm. (Or is this where Gillis injures his wrist?) As Scheffler exits the vehicle, he is immediately slammed up against the vehicle and handcuffed.
A new video of Scottie Scheffler’s arrest has been released
