Yuka Saso won the U.S. Women’s Open. She’s a rising star on the LPGA circuit and anyone who follows golf knows her background.

For instance, she’s from the Philippines.

She’s also a big fan of Rory McIlroy.

On Saturday, after his round at the Memorial, McIlroy was asked about Saso being a fan. He claimed to be an admirer as well, and said he was “really into” the U.S. Women’s Open.

“Really cool that someone that’s used me as a model is leading the U.S. Open. And I’m really, like I’m really into it,” said McIlroy.

When he was told that Saso was hoping to meet him at the Olympics.

McIlroy said, “Yeah. That would be cool. I would like to — yeah, the Olympics, like who knows how it’s going to be or what’s going to happen, but I think with Hideki doing what he did at Augusta, it’s really strong golfing nation. Japan, maybe having her as a major champion going in there. Who knows.

“It would be really — it would be really cool.

“It’s just a shame it’s not going to be like a normal Olympics. It will still be cool.”

The media abruptly stopped asking him about Saso. And then soon after, McIlroy jumped onto social media to talk Saso up.

This reminds me of the time McIlroy was accused of ageism when he got into a twitter fight with former PGA champion Steve Elkington.

Just days later Rory is shown on social media helping out a little old lady.

He’s the biggest phony on tour.
