“Tradition is the prison where change is detained… To make a change, you need to agree that you are not going with the statement “this is how we do it”! Yes, that was how it was done, but what next? Agree to change!”

It’s difficult sometimes to pick the exact moment in your life when you started to think differently about an issue which you were previously convinced was the best, and only, way it should be done.

Maybe, you’re a traditionalist who just believes that most things in life should just remain unchanged. Then again, maybe it has more to do with stubbornness or the fear of change.

I promise that my intentions are not to change your mind with what I’m about to write, it’s just that I’m checking to see if anyone else might’ve had the same feelings I had this weekend, after watching the LIV Golf Championship.

While spending the last three days watching the “Team Golf” on Trump’s National Doral ‘Blue Monster’ golf course in Miami Florida, I’m absolutely convinced that it is the future of professional golf. Hands Down!

Before you start yelling at your computer screen about someone changing their mind after watching three days of golf, let me lay out some of the reasons that contributed to my change of view.

LIV Golf is promoting the game of golf as a team sport. It has taken the sports’ traditional concept of individuality and changed it to a collective outcome.

Most, if not all, of our professional golfers come from a team golf concept. They have spent their formative years playing on a high school or collegiate team, prior to heading into professional tour golf.

Team sports have always been somewhat of a safety net for a lot of athletes. I’m convinced that sharing wins and losses is always either more fun or more comforting when it can be done with others.

Watching professional teammates celebrating or commiserating during the course of a round of golf sets a wonderful example and promotes participation at all levels of competition.

I think these events are refreshing and provide a different tone to the game as players are not only playing for themselves, but playing for their partners, which brings a different degree of pressure to the game.

So, now that I’ve come clean and publicly admit that LIV Golf just could be the wave of the future and that Jay Monahan, and the PGA Tour should take a good look at incorporating team golf into their programs or they might find themselves wishing they had.

Congratulations to LIV Golf for organizing, promoting, and producing such an entertaining weekend of team golf here in Southern Florida. It’s been a pleasure having you.
