If one sliding weight is good, isn’t two better and why not an adjustable hosel?

That’s the approach Mizuno’s latest entry into the hypercompetitive driver market uses and the reasoning makes sense. The two tracks running from front to back are angled to the face increasing the tendency for producing a draw, fade, or straight ball flight.

Add the rear track perpendicular to the face which promotes a higher or lower trajectory depending on the presence or absence of a weight and there are lots of customization possibilities.

For example, those looking to hit the ball higher without increasing the driver’s loft should place one or both weights in the rear track or to get the maximum slice-fighting configuration both weights go in the lower lateral track towards the heel. Conversely a fade is easier to achieve with one or both weights in the lateral track closer to the toe.

And if that wasn’t enough Mizuno added a hosel with a total of 4 degrees adjustability that effects loft, lie and face angle.

“Having that little bit of extra adjustability is especially useful out on tour – where we can fine-tune a player’s flight,” said Chris Voshall, a Mizuno golf club engineer, during a press briefing.

“Or make an adjustment for a particular tournament when the player doesn’t want the feel of a completely new driver. The ST-G 220 has so much more effective movement of weight along both the X and the Z axis. We can set it to be very low spin, a more playable mid spin, heavily fade or draw biased and just about anything in-between.”
